Their serums/skincare also seem to have a good reputation on /r/skincareaddiction.

They don't do samples, which kind of sucks.

Their swatches on the site arent always always that accurate, but I was still happy with what I ended up with. Their blushes are soft and easy to wear and they obviously focus on making sure there are great matches for very dark and very light skinned people. Their dupes can be hit and miss, I have Climax, the NARS Orgasm dupe and don't feel it's particularly accurate, but seeing it lacks the glitter it's probably more flattering tbh. They have good neutrals and the Naked dupes are meant to be more accurate than Climax. Skincare, from my experience is great. I can't comment on the customer service.

The prices are great for what you get. I initially decided to try out Silk Naturals because I'm trying to improve my makeup skills and it seemed like a less expensive and less risky choice. However, the quality is really nice! There's a huge variety of colors and styles for eye shadows and lip products (can't comment on the lip products, never tried them).

Some shadows are butterier than others, but you can sort by what kinds and colors you are looking for. They also always throw in something free with your order, which is a really nice touch. Customer service is great and the forum is pretty helpful too.

Turnaround for me has been super fast each time I ordered. I don't know if it's because I live in MA and they're in NY, but my order has never taken more than 3 days to arrive in my mailbox.

They also have really nice brushes and their Stick 'Em Primer is awesome. It has a bit of a learning curve, but it's better than any other primer I've tried.

I ordered on a Saturday night, got the shipping notification first thing Monday morning, and received the package here in Seattle on Wednesday afternoon!

Silk Naturals Empty Re: Silk Naturals

I've tried a ton of their stuff, and for about a year I used their skincare products almost exclusively. I don't anymore but that's not because of the quality - I just get bored and always want to try out the next new thing. Their serums and AHA toner are fantastic for those of us getting on a bit, and the pore refining toner is great for my teenage daughter's acne prone but sensitively dry skin. The Intensive Moisturiser is beautiful - it hydrates without feeling rich or greasy on the skin. Pretty much all their skin care line can be bought in sample size too so you can try it out first. Full sizes are very reasonably priced.

Their eyeshadows are well pigmented and last on me - the colours tend to be more on the neutral, every day end of the spectrum, but that suits me fine. They don't have lip or eyeshadow samples but the price is cheap. They do have samples of other makeup products such as blushes, brow powders, etc. I love their brow cream too - I use a stiff angled brush to apply it (Illamasqua) and it lasts the whole day.

They do some good special deals too - they have a points rewards system and they also have a thing where you can choose a free eyeshadow or lip balm for every X amount you spend (I think maybe every $35). And on top of that they have a product of the week that gets included with orders over a certain amount - I think $15.

Their super serum gave me a rash when I tested it on my arm so I gave it to my mom. (It doesn't bother her skin.) I've loved all of the eyeshadows I've gotten from them, it's nice to have some neutral (not boring!) indies to balance out all of the exciting and wonderful colors I've been collecting from other companies. I also have one of their blushes (desert plum) which was beautiful and quite pigmented. Their kisser slickers have a really nice moisturizing texture and range from tinted balm to lipstick opacity. I have Berry Nice (tinted balm) and Birthday Suit (much closer to lipstick).

Silk Naturals Empty Re: Silk Naturals

Silk Naturals has and incredibly fast TAT. My last few indie orders have taken anywhere from 3-6 weeks, but my Black Friday order from SN only took 9 days! Crazy considering it was international shipping on a giant box of liquids and powders. The owner included a free lipbalm and sample eyeshadow with my first order, and I loved the color she picked out. When I made my second order I mentioned in the comments how she had chosen the perfect color and thanked her for the samples. When my second order arrived it had a lovely little note and a second sample of that eyeshadow, along with 3 free lipbalms! The balms are great, and so is everything else I've tried. I'm trying to go the all natural route for my hair, skin care and makeup, and so far SN has worked really well for me.

Silk Naturals Empty Re: Silk Naturals

I've been impressed with all my interactions with Silk Naturals. Each order (I've placed around 5 over the last couple of years) is shipped quickly, well packaged and I saved a bit on my last order with their rewards program. Any emails I've sent are always responded to quickly and the team seems really lovely!

As others have mentioned, their eyeshadows are nothing phenomenal but the lip products are amazing. Some of my favourite lipsticks and balms are from SN. They have a huge range of colours and finishes and most last a solid amount of time on me. If you're looking for a chemical exfoliant the 8% AHA is the best value for money I've found and a good gentle way to take care of your skin. The other serums and moisturisers are similarly well-priced and the samples are large enough to get an idea of whether the product is right for your skin. The moisturisers are gel-based and not heavy duty enough for my dry skin, but they'd be perfect for normal/oily skin types.

Silk Naturals Empty Decent with terrible CS

Post by meowlephant Fri Jan 30, 2015 11:09 pm

I've been a customer at Silk Naturals for a year now and have happily recommended Karen's products to friends, families, Redditors, and have even bought them as gifts before, but I won't be shopping from SN anymore. It's all fine and dandy until you have a problem and send your products back.

Karen doesn't do returns, just store credit, which is fine with me. She responds to messages quickly, unless she's avoiding talking to you. I usually get responses from her within a day but when I started inquiring about my return it took her a whole month to get back to me. She won't address the fact that she ignored my messages, so my advice for anyone planning to send back items is to e-mail her instead of going through her contact form, as proof that you tried contacting her.

I returned an order over a month ago and still have not received the correct store credit amount. I've been sending her numerous messages, most of which have gone unanswered, and the few that I receive replies to have not been pleasant at all.

I sent back about $40 worth of products and after 5 messages over the span of a month, got store credit for $13. I sent back an e-mail explaining that was the incorrect store credit amount, another one asking her to reply as soon as possible otherwise I was afraid I'd have to open a Paypal dispute, and finally a third one earlier today telling her I'd be escalating to a claim. These 3 messages were sent over the course of a week, and she only responded once I seriously threatened her with a claim- within 4 hours. Instead of giving me the correct store credit amount, she instead refunded me for $23. Is it really that hard to just give me the amount I paid for? I am now opening a claim with Paypal for an issue that should have been corrected ages ago.

Her products all range from "okay" to "good." I have a ton of her eyeshadows, and I think she excels in work-safe colors the most. So nothing glitter bomb-y or super complex, but just well-done neutrals. I have some of her more colorful shadows and personally would not recommend them, because all of them go on really sheer, even the more bold shades. I've tried her Stick Em eyeshadow primer and it works neither as a primer or a sticky base. It's the most watery primer I've used in my life, and it leaves a very thin layer of a plastic-y feeling on the eyes. Colors will go on slightly more pigmented, but it's not going to help with creasing or make colors REALLY show up the way FPE does. I suppose it'd work okay if you don't have oily eyes though.

Her lip products are nice sans her lip stains, which form a tight, plastic-y layer over your lips, don't apply and dry evenly, and shrink. I also don't like her lip balms, which coat your lips heavily but dries them out. I do like her stick lip glosses, but keep in mind they have a 6 month expiration date.

I haven't tried her skincare aside from her cleansing oil, which clogged my pores and broke me out. It's not as clean rinsing as other brands I've tried, but might be better for drier skin types than mine.

Her TAT is amazing, so I can't fault her for that. However, the combination of basic, lackluster eyeshadows, terrible customer service, snarky replies, and refusal to give me the amount I paid for her completely turned me off of her brand, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
