Some people are also mad at them for naming a lipstick something offensive like Tentacle Grape and dismissing complaints about it, but I don't care too much about that (you may, though!)

I've had a lipstick myself grow something on the top, and I threw it away. I do like their lip glosses, but I cannot repurchase any longer from this company. I also have eyeshadows from a wedding collection where several of the shadows are not blended, and there are visible white chunks of unblended pigments.

I really did enjoy the colors of the shadows, I wouldn't purchase any of the lip products though I thought about it, but that's just because I really don't wear lip products often. The only thing that kinda irked me about the package was it was just a regular envelope, with all of the shadows just thrown in. Some had obviously shaken up and slightly seeped out even with sifters in them. So that was a small peeve, but other than that I like their shadows, especially the new Halloween collection, and the MLP collection Smile I probably won't order again anytime soon, but that's because I have so much to play with!

Geek Chic Cosmetics Empty Won't order again

Post by kittenmittons91 Mon Feb 17, 2014 5:44 pm

I tried Geek Chic a few months ago when they were discontinuing some shades. The packaging is a pain. My jar lids weren't screwed on tightly, so my shadows leaked all over each other, and the samples are in clamshells, which means they basically explode every time I open them. I received samples of a couple colors I liked quite a bit, but this company has had too many issues (moldy lipstick, fingerprints in eyeshadow jars, 'Tentacle Grape' controversy) for me to feel comfortable giving them any more of my money or even using their products.

Geek Chic Cosmetics Empty Great customer service but average products

Post by megankirk13 Mon Apr 28, 2014 7:59 am

I have only placed one order with Geek Chic and when I got it I was really disappointed.  The eye shadow sizes are much smaller compared to other companies (only 1g), but the prices are the same.  I felt like $5.99 per gram for an eyeshadow was a bit ridiculous but I went ahead and tried them out.  Many of the shadows were nice (N7, Heir of Isildur, and the Portal colors) but they weren't better than other brands I had tried and some of the colors were pointless without a sticky base.  The lip gloss I ordered, however, turned out to be a big issue.  I had ordered Happy Ending which was supposed to be a clear glitter bomb with a mint julep taste to it.  Instead I got a light pink glittery gloss that smelled very, very sweet but it was a gross sort of off kind of sweet smell.  It was horrible and gave me headaches and I just could not wear it.  All of this put together had me rather put off by the company as a whole, but I decided to reach out to them about the lip gloss (because headache inducing things are just not cool) and see if at least that part could be saved.  (You can read my whole review here:http://mistresschi13.blogspot.jp/2014/04/geek-chic-cosmetics-haul-review-and.html)

They e-mailed me back very quickly and told me that it sounded like there had been a mix up and I had gotten the wrong lip color because it shouldn't smell or look like that. They then went on to say that they would send out a replacement for the lip gloss and my sample of Portal Blue that had been nearly empty. I sent back an e-mail asking if I could purchase a full size of Heir of Isildur (because it's beautiful) and have them add it to the package. In their response they said that they had added it to the package. I mailed back asking for an invoice so I could pay for it and they responded that it was their apology gift to me. I was pretty floored because I wasn't expecting that at all. They didn't owe me a free shadow at all and honestly I would have been happy with just a replacement or exchange for the lip gloss.

Cue another round of surprise when my replacement package arrived. There was a full size of Portal Blue in the package as well as a full size of Heir of Isildur and the lip gloss replacement. The best part is that the lip gloss replacement is gorgeous and does not have the horrible smell. I am so happy that I can actually wear it.

As someone who worked in customer service for a very long time good customer service is just as important to me as the products, so this definitely improved my opinion of them and I would order from them again at some point because of it.  They do have some really stand out eye shadows (N7 and Heir of Isildur), but because of their prices they are a company I won't order from very often and I will do a lot of swatch research before I decide what to order.

Geek Chic Cosmetics Empty Geek Chic Cosmetics

I want to start by saying I WANTED to love Geek Chic, but sadly, all their products (with a few rare exceptions) have been disappointing.

I've ordered three times, grabbing solid scents, eyeshadows, lipsticks, lip glosses and nail polish. The nail polish was Shine Aqua Illusion and was completely unusable. The base was much too liquid-y and wouldn't dry. It was so thin that all the sparkles in the base would sink to the bottom. When I notified Geek Chic of the problem, they shrugged and said they'd work on another batch but didn't offer a refund or replacement. I ended up throwing it away.

The shadows are lackluster and expensive for the amount you get. I gave away most of the shadows from Geek Chic. I've kept one or two but for the most part, they're very simple. I'd recommend going elsewhere for shadows.

I like the glosses and their brush + pen type applicator. The colors are true to the swatches online and smell and taste very good. The lipsticks were very drying and difficult to use because mine were poured and seemed like they sloshed around before cooling because they were not the typical tube balm or lipstick shape, but a weird convex cavern.

Their customer service is good - when I did not receive a sample and contacted them, they promptly sent it out.

Sadly I would not recommend this company and will not be purchasing from them again. Their service is good but the products just aren't up to snuff.

Geek Chic Cosmetics Empty No problems and great products

Post by Terrythemerry Sat Nov 29, 2014 12:56 pm

I've ordered from Geek Chic Cosmetics twice now and I'm saving up for another order once I come off my current No Buy. My first order consisted of The Timey Wimey and N7 collections along with two shadows from the Witchcraft and Wizardry collection as well as the entire Pie maker solid scent collection and some from the Traces of Thedas. My second order consisted solely of the Awesome Mix collection. According to the site plenty of things have been reformulated and I feel like they've worked out most of the kinks from two years ago, however I can't speak for their polish or lip products as I'm not interested in any of the current colors. All of the colors on site are true to life, but to get those site swatches you have to either apply wet or over a sticky base , do that and you'll find some truly gorgeous colors. Their solids also smell awesome and the few I didn't like went fast among friends who did. I haven't had any problem with their shipping, and each time they have taken the full span of the TAT to ship. The only times I contacted them were with questions about how they swatch their site photos and a question about a sale. Both times I got a response within a few hours and once I got replies from two of the owners both telling me about their process. They seem like a good lot who have improved a bunch over the few years they've been active and I would recommend them to anyone interested.

Geek Chic Cosmetics Empty Always great!

Post by swatcher Mon Sep 07, 2015 8:08 pm

I am really surprised at some of these negative reviews; I had no idea anyone was having experiences like this! I've ordered from GC about 4-5 times now over the years and I've never had any issues. All the eyeshadows I have from them I think about 30 in total now) have all been wonderful colors, well blended, and unique. YMMV but I've never had anything but glowing happiness from their products Smile
